Mexico to Belize

Crossing the border from Mexico to Belize

After spending the night at the seashore we headed south to the city of Chetumal which is the capital of the Province of Quintana Roo and where is the border crossing between Mexico and Belize.

Between Cancun and Chetumal there are several “poblados” with Mayan influence, cenotes and Ecological Reserves and the most famous archaeological site is located in the city of Tulum. We also drove by the Lagunas of Bacalar under heavy rain in fact.

We left Mexico with little bureaucracy and headed to the border with Belize but  we had to stand in quite a big line of people  and this is due to the fact that prices are cheaper in Mexico so people  cross the border to go shopping even for groceries, we were told, and have to return through customs. All the paperwork took quite a while since it is all handwritten – no computers – but everyone was very friendly and helpful. We arrived here on a holiday and they will be celebrating their independence anniversary on the next September 21st. In the past Belize was British Honduras and their independence happened quite recently-in 1981. But they still belong to the commonwealth and the Queen is still their Queen.

Alaska is such a wonderful destination for tourists. It has meaningful attractions to explore and have an offensive time. I like its parks, lakes and glaciers.
