Saimos de Kissimmee rumando norte em direcao a fronteira com o estado da Georgia. Aqui nos Estados Unidos existem o que chamam de "Rest Areas" que estao espalhadas por todo o pais nas Interstates (auto-estradas) a aproximadamente cada 50 milhas. Nelas
existem banheiros, mesas para piquenique, area para exercitar os animais de estimacao, bem como diz o nome "areas de descanso". E nas fronteiras entre Estados existem os "Welcome Centers", que possuem as mesmas amenidades das rest areas mas tambem fornecem
mapas do Estado e regiao, informacoes turisticas pertinentes a cada setor do Estado, os funcionarios estao habilitados a auxiliarem os turistas com orientacoes e informacoes que se fizerem necessarias, inclusive fazendo reserva de hotel, se for o caso. Em
algumas delas existe seguranca na parte da noite e entao e possivel pernoitar (foi o que fizemos com o outro motorhome na outra viagem). Tanto as Rest Areas como os Welcome Centers sao muito utilizadas tambem pelos caminhoneiros neste pais.
No primeiro
dia chegamos ate a cidade de Tifton, na Georgia e pernoitamos no estacionamento do restaurante "Cracker Barrel". Esta e uma rede de restaurantes que existe no pais todo, com comida bem caseira, servem cafe da manha com panqueca, bacon, linguica, mingau de
aveia...o dia todo! Eles parecem um "armazem" antigo e possuem na entrada uma loja que vende desde roupas, principalmente infantis, como brinquedos daqueles com os quais brincavamos antigamente, e tambem produtos alimenticios, e muitos dos itens vendidos ai
sao fabricados especialmente para os restaurantes. Bem, esta rede possui estacionamento especifico para trailers e motorhomes e permitem que as pessoas passem a noite la. E foi neste local que pernoitamos as tres primeiras noites.
De Tifton seguimos
norte, passando por Atlanta, que e sua capital. Em Atlanta existe o Museu da Coca Cola, que ja visiamos em viagens anteriores e ao sul, na ciadade de Jonesboro ha o Museu e city tour do Filme "E o vento levou", que tambem visitamos em ocasiao anterior. Dai
chegamos a fronteira da Georgia com o Tennessee - Chattanooga no Tennessee e Chickamauga na Georgia. onde tambem ja visitamos o "Chattanooga/Chickamauga National Military Park, que e fantastico, local onde foram travadas as "Battles for Chattanooga". Ja no
Tennessee existe a Lookout Mountain, onde tambem ja visitamos Rock City e viajamos na "Incline Railway". Chatanooga para Nashville - berco da country music americana - onde ja visitamos os museus e "hall of fame" dos cantores "country", assim como o "Grand
Ol'Opry" - palco onde se apresentam os maiores interpretes da country music. Depois passamos pelo Kentucky - "Bourbon Country" - onde se pode passar pela "Bourbon Trail" - rota em que se pode visitar 14 destilarias, entre as quais Jim Beam, Four Roses, Wild
Turkey. No Tennesse visitamos as destilarias do Jack Daniels e George Dickel, tambem em viagem anterior. No Kentucky passamos por uma regiao chamada "Land Between the Lakes", entre os lagos Barkley e Kentucky, e visitamos o Museu que conta a Historia do desenvolvimento
desta regiao que e belissima em belezas naturais preservadas e oferece locais para acampamento, trilhas, caca, pesca, cavalgadas.
Na fronteira do Kentucky passamos pela cidade de Paducah, considerada a "Quilt Capital" dos EUA e ai desenvolvem tambem
varias outras atividades artisticas. Logo que se entra no estado de Illinois encontra-se a cidade de Metropolis - sim, a do Super Homem - e la visitamos, tambem em outra viagem, todos os locais como museus, lojas, casas de colecionadores de objetos relacionados
com o personagem "Superman". Illinois e a terra do Presidente Lincoln, e ai passamos pela sua capital - Springfield - onde se pode conhecer e aprender tudo com relacao ao ex Presidente, e tambem foi ai em Springfield que se atribui o surgimento do "corn dog",
uma salsicha envolta em uma massa de farinha de trigo, que e frito e que, alias, e muito gostoso. Da capital seguimos norte ate perto da fronteira com Iowa e estamos num camping na cidade de Rock Island, na beira de um lago. Daniel saiu para pescar mas retornou
em seguida pois comecou a chover forte aqui...mas ele ja tinha reservado um salmao para a janta..."just in case..."kkk
Leaving Kissimmee we headed north towards the boirder with Georgia. The first three nights we spent at Cracker Barrel parking lot
- first night in Tifton, GA; second night in Manchester, TN and the third night in Springfield, Ill.
In Georgia we crossed Atlanta, where we have visited Coca Cola World, and to the south, a little before getting to Atlanta, in the town of Jonesboro
we visited the Road to Tara Museum and City Tour - all related to the movie "Gone with the Wind. At the border of Georgia and Tennessee one gets to the town of Chattanooga, where we have visited the Chattanooga and Chickamauga Military Park - where the "Battles
for Chattanooga" took place and this site is very interesting. On the Tennessee side there is the Lookout Mountain where we have visited Rock City and Incline Railway - both attractions worth the time. From Chattanooga to Nashville - country music land of
America - where we have visited some museums, Country Music Hall of Fame, Grand Ol' Opry. Here in Tennessee we have also visited Jack Daniel's as well as George Dickel distileries - nice tours.
Then comes Kentucky - Bourbon Country where one can follow
the "Bourbon Trail" where one has the chance to visit 14 different distilleries such as Jim Beam, Four Roses, Wild Turkey, Maker's Mark, etc. Then we went through the "Land Between the Lakes" area which is located between lakes Kentucky and Barkley and visited
the Interpretive Museum at Golden Pond welcome center which tells all regarding the development and history of this area which is gorgeous in natural beauties, well preserved and offers a variety of outdoor activities such as camping, trails, fishing, hunting,
kayaking, horsebackriding, etc. At the border of Kentucky we passed by the city of Paducah, called the "Quilt Capital" of the US, where there are several art galleries and art related stores. As soon as one enters Illinois one finds the town of Metropolis...yes...the
one related to Superman and there we visited the Museum of Superman and several other places, small stores, collectors places all related to Clark Kent and his movie character. Illinois is the Land of Lincoln - where one can learn and view all related to the
former President, in Springfield - and it is also in Springfield that the "corn dog" was invented and they say the family who has come up with this "snack" is still in business and owns a diner downtown Springfield. In Illinois we crossed by a town called
Germantown and when you are leaving it there's a sign that says "Aufwiedersehen"...
From here we went up to near the border of Iowa, the Quad Cities, where we stayed at a KOA Campground in Rock Island where there is a lake and Daniel went fishing...but
he had reserved some salmon from the freezer, "just in case..."
