SASKATCHEWAN –

SASKATCHEWAN –

After Medicine Hat we followed 1 and went through the towns of Maple Creek, Swift Current, Moose Jaw, arriving at the capital City of Regina, where we visited friends Lucas, Djenane and little Charles, parking the RV in front of their place.

Regina is a vibrant city offering the visitor a number of great restaurants, from casual cafes to fine and sophisticated dining. Over the last few years, Regina’s craft brewing scene has become an attraction all its own in the Warehouse District, with a variety of award-winning breweries serving signature beers.

It is a City of the Arts, presenting several art galleries. Such as the MacKenzie Art Gallery, the Art Gallery of Regina, the Dunlop Art Gallery at the Regina Public Library, as well as private galleries such as Slate Fine Art Gallery and Nouveau Gallery.

On Wednesday and Saturday mornings in the summer, the City Square is transformed by the Regina Farmer’s Market, with local produce and busy food trucks.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) Heritage Center in Regina is a good place to learn more about the ongoing story of a Canadian icon. In the exhibit hall one can check out the Musical ride virtual reality experience or driving simulator. On the grounds of the RCMP Academy, “Depot” Division, one can visit the historic RCMP Chapel – Regina’s oldest building, or watch the cadets practicing drills in the Sergeant Major’s Parade, week-days at 12:45 p.m.

Here we took the opportunity to visit the Wascana Centre, along the shores of the Wascana Lake. Here is then Royal Saskatchewan Museum – only place to come face-to-face with Megamunch – the museum’s resident T.Rex. A place to learn about the story of Indigenous cultures and the natural history of the land that became Saskatchewan. Here is also located the Saskatchewan Legislative Building – built in 1912 – is one of the grandest buildings in Western Canada; the MacKenzie Art Gallery, the Willow on Wascana – boasting the best view in the city from its lakeside patio seating; the Saskatchewan Science Center/Kramer IMAX; the Conexus Art Center and the Wascana Lake Migratory Bird Sanctuary.

Upon leaving Regina we took highway 6, southbound, getting to the town if Minton, where we exchanged the Canadian dollars we had for US dollars. From Minton we went on south getting to the border town of Regway; and this is where we crossed the border into the US again, arriving in the town of Plentiwood, in Montana.
