Soldotna e a parte central da Península de Kenai  e esta’ localizada a 150 milhas de Anchorage, e o acesso se da’ pelas rodovias Seward e Sterling. Diferente de muitas das cidades do Alaska, que surgiram durante a corrida do ouro, Soldotna foi colonizada por volta de 1947 por fazendeiros.

O mundialmente famosos Rio Kenai e’ uma das principais atrações de Soldotna. Em 1985, um morador de Soldotna chamado Les Anderson fisgou um King Salmon que se tornou um recorde mundial – e foi pego com linha e anzol. Ele o pescou no Rio Kenai e ele pesou 97 libras e 4 oncas (mais ou menos 50 kg!!!). Este incrível exemplar esta exposto no Centro de Visitantes.

Quando estiver visitando Soldotna, não perca a oportunidade de visitar algum dos três mercados ao ar livre para sentir o estilo de vida da Peninsula de Kenai.  As tercas feiras acontece o Farmers Fresh Market – das 3-6 na Community College Dr.; as quartas e’ o dia do Mercado de Soldotna – que acontece no Soldotna Creek Park – com um concerto gratuito no parque das 6-9. E aos sábados acontece o Central Kenai Península Farmers Market – das 10-2, na esquina da Spur Highway com a Corral Street.

A Camara de Comercio e o Centro de Visitantes se encontra ao sul da ponte do rio Kenai. Ai se encontra uma coleção única de peças de e exposição de vida selvagem. O Centro de Visitantes oferece um sistema de empréstimo de vara de pesca e  binóculos. Ele se encontra aberto diariamente no verão, das 9-7.

Entre as várias opções de hospedagem esta’ o Diamond M Ranch Resort, que oferece cabanas e suítes, bem como espaço para acampar com motor home, trailers e barracas. Ele se localiza na metade do caminho entre Kenai e Soldotna, próximo do famoso Rio Kenai, com fácil e rápido acesso ‘as cidades de Homer e Seward.

 

SOLDOTNA – World Class Fishing

Soldotna is the central hub of the Kenai Peninsula and is located just 150 miles from Anchorage, via Seward and Sterling Highways. Unlike most towns in Alaska, Which were founded during the gold rushes, Soldotna was settled around 1947 by Homesteaders.

The world famous Kenai River is one of Soldotna’s main attractions. In 1985, Soldotna resident Les Anderson caught a world-record King Salmon (on a line). He hooked it in the Kenai River and it weighed in at 97 lbs. 4 oz. His incredible catch is on display at the Visitor Center.

While visiting Soldotna, stop by one of three open air markets to get a taste of life on the Kenai Peninsula. Tuesday is the Farmers Fresh Market, 3-6 at 33955 Community College Dr. Soldotna’s Wednesday Market is 11-9 at Soldotna Creek Park, with a free concert in the park from 6-9. Saturday is the Central Kenai Peninsula Farmers Market, from 10-2, at the corner of the Spur Highway and Corral Street.

Soldotna Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Center is just south of the Kenai River Bridge. Home to a unique Ivory Collection and wildlife displays. Besides finding brochures, maps and useful information on local events, the Visitor Center offers a fishing rod and binoculars loan program. Open 9-7, daily in the summer.

Among the several accommodation places, there is the Diamond M Ranch Resort, which offers a variety of cabins and suites, also has supersize, pull through RV sites and tent camping.

 It is located halfway between Kenai and Soldotna, close to the famous Kenai River, with easy day trips to Homer and Seward.

Alaska is such a wonderful destination for tourists. It has meaningful attractions to explore and have an offensive time. I like its parks, lakes and glaciers.
